  BREAKING: Appeal Court affirms Fubara as Rivers Gov, dismisses Tonye-Cole petition An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State has affirmed the election of Siminalayi Fubara as the governor of Rivers State. The court dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, against Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In the courtroom on Tuesday, the APC candidate requested that the court order INEC to declare him the winner of the March governorship election in Rivers. Cole’s case contesting Fubara’s election as governor was initially dismissed by the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in October. Dissatisfied with the tribunal’s judgment, the APC candidate approached the appellate court. However, the court on Tuesday upheld the Tribunal ruling, which affirmed Fubara’s victory in October.

President Tinubu to present 2024 budget of N27.5 trillion to National Assembly on Wednesday November 29

 President Bola Tinubu will on Wednesday, November 29, present the 2024 budget to the National Assembly.   The Federal Executive Council earlier today November 27 approved the 2024 budget of N27.5 trillion. This followed the review of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework earlier passed by the National Assembly which benchmarked the exchange rate at N700 to $1 and crude oil price at $73.96 cent per barrel. Briefing State House Correspondents shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, said it revised the MTEF and the Fiscal Policy to use an exchange rate of N750 to $1 and also a benchmark crude oil reference price of $77.96 per barrel. According to Bagudu, the FEC also approved an Appropriation Bill for 2024 with an aggregate expenditure of N27.5 trillion, an increase of over N1.5 trillion from the previously estimated.  The Malian military government has said that it has signed an agreement with President Vladimir Putin-led Russian government to build a gold refinery in Mali capital, Bamako. The agreement is one of deals between the two countries as Russia seeks to extend its regional influence. Reuters reports that Malian minister, Alousséni Sanou, said in an interview on state television broadcast that the accord, which is a non-binding memorandum of understanding, involves building a 200-tonnes-per-year refinery. The minister reportedly said that the memorandum will be valid for four years, but he did not give a timeline for construction, but noted that if built, it would be the West African country's largest gold refinery. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members to join the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, starting from Monday midnight.
