I WILL NOT TAKE AWAY HOPE FROM YOU, FUBARA ASSURES Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara has noted the importance of hope in the life of every human and assured that his administration will continue to embark on activities that will sustain the hope of improved standard of living for them.  Governor Fubara gave the assurance at the launching of Emblem Appeal Fund to kickstart 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration that took place at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. At the event, governor Fubara was decorated with the emblem crest by the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion with other personnel taking turns to be decorated. Governor Fubara noted that without hope, people will find it difficult to lead life optimistically. He pointed out that it is for such reason that Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu has chosen the "Renewed Hope Agenda" mantra geared towards restoring lost hope in Nigerians by improving the nation's economy.

  BREAKING: Appeal Court affirms Fubara as Rivers Gov, dismisses Tonye-Cole petition An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State has affirmed the election of Siminalayi Fubara as the governor of Rivers State. The court dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, against Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In the courtroom on Tuesday, the APC candidate requested that the court order INEC to declare him the winner of the March governorship election in Rivers. Cole’s case contesting Fubara’s election as governor was initially dismissed by the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in October. Dissatisfied with the tribunal’s judgment, the APC candidate approached the appellate court. However, the court on Tuesday upheld the Tribunal ruling, which affirmed Fubara’s victory in October.

President Tinubu to present 2024 budget of N27.5 trillion to National Assembly on Wednesday November 29

 President Bola Tinubu will on Wednesday, November 29, present the 2024 budget to the National Assembly.   The Federal Executive Council earlier today November 27 approved the 2024 budget of N27.5 trillion. This followed the review of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework earlier passed by the National Assembly which benchmarked the exchange rate at N700 to $1 and crude oil price at $73.96 cent per barrel. Briefing State House Correspondents shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, said it revised the MTEF and the Fiscal Policy to use an exchange rate of N750 to $1 and also a benchmark crude oil reference price of $77.96 per barrel. According to Bagudu, the FEC also approved an Appropriation Bill for 2024 with an aggregate expenditure of N27.5 trillion, an increase of over N1.5 trillion from the previously estimated.  CONTEMPT FORM 48 ISSUED AGAINST AMAWHULE, MAOL OVER RIVERS CRISIS  The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has issued contempt of court Form 48  against the embattled speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol. It was issued in pursuant to an application made by the Rt. Hon. Ehie Ogerenye Edison and the Rivers State House of Assembly over disobedience of the order of the Court made on the 7th day of November 2023. In the suit number FHC/PH/CS/240/2023, filed by the Rivers State House of Assembly as the first plaintiff and Rt. Hon. (Barr) Ehie Ogerenye Edison as the second plaintiff, the court had ordered the parties to stop taking any further steps concerning the subject matter of the suit before the court.  Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, has ordered the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The Nigerian government brought Emefiele before the FCT High Court on a six-count charge bordering on alleged N1.6 billion procurement fraud.corrupt advantage contrary to Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 by awarding a contract for the supply of one Toyota Landcruiser V8 Investment Ltd., in 2019 at the cost of N73 million. The fourth count was about a Toyota Landcruiser V8 valued N73,800,000 awarded illegally to April 1616 Investment Ltd. The Nigerian government further accused the former CBN governor of also awarding a contract to Yaro for the supply of two Toyota Hilux Shell Specification Vehicles at the cost of N44,200,000 in 2020.   Transmission Company of Nigeria have shut down Nigeria's National grid in line with NLC Nationwide strike  Electricity workers have shut down the national grid following the declaration of an indefinite strike by organised labour unions – the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria. The spokesperson for Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, in an interview with Daily Post on Tuesday said electricity workers, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), followed directives of the Nigeria Labour Congress had withdrawn their services around 11:20am on Tuesday, which would result in nationwide blackout. “Electricity workers are NLC members; they’ve followed the directive by organised labour to withdraw their services from Tuesday”, she stated. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members to join the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, starting from Monday midnight. ASUU stated this in a circular to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, signed by Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU President and obtained by Okolobi Gist Specials.
